PromptPay Transactions Hit 2.53 Billion in August
PromptPay processed 2.53 billion transactions worth 4.37 trillion baht in August, up 12% year-on-year, with cross-border QR payments from foreign visitors surging as China led international transaction values at 1.28 billion baht.
National IT and Money Exchange (NITMX) has released August 2026 PromptPay system data, reflecting the platform's critical role in driving Thailand's digital financial infrastructure. Total transactions reached 2.53 billion (up 12% year-on-year), with a combined value of 4.37 trillion baht (up 3% year-on-year), covering peer-to-peer transfers, goods and services payments, and small business transactions. Registered accounts reached 83.44 million, comprising 83.02 million individual users and 0.42 million business users.
The highest transaction volume occurred on Monday, August 31, 2026, marking month-end and achieving a peak of 101.13 million transactions, reflecting regular bill-payment and business cycles.
Cross-border QR payments have grown significantly, allowing foreign visitors to scan Thai QR codes through mobile applications. The top three countries by transaction value in August 2026 were China leading with 1.278 billion baht, followed by Malaysia with 373.06 million baht, and Laos with 138.32 million baht. This data reflects foreign tourists' widespread adoption of QR code payments, providing convenience and reducing cash dependence during travel in Thailand.
The August performance of 2.53 billion transactions worth over 4.37 trillion baht underscores PromptPay's role as central to daily life and economic activity. NITMX continues to develop modern, secure payment infrastructure to support growth in domestic and international transactions and strengthen Thailand's digital economy.
