UDON THANI — October 13, 2026 — A rescue volunteer lodged a police complaint after allegedly being slapped by an intoxicated man wearing a sports shirt marked “Udon Police” while assisting an injured person on a roadside in Udon Thani. The incident occurred around 00:30 on Tuesday near the Sam Phrao Health Promoting Hospital intersection in Sam Phrao subdistrict, Muang district. A video of the confrontation was recorded and later posted to the Facebook page “Hia Piak Chuai Duay” by members of the Sam Phrao rescue team, also known as Motorland.
The volunteers said they had been dispatched to an accident scene where an injured person lay unconscious. While they were rendering aid, a white sedan pulled up sharply beside their rescue vehicle. At first they thought the driver might be a relative of the injured person, but the man got out and started questioning them about the scene. He appeared unsteady on his feet, with his hands in his pockets.
During the exchange, the man reportedly told the rescuers to call nearby police and insisted he had never looked down on rescue workers. The volunteers attempted to calm him and explained they were there to help the injured person. Tensions rose when one volunteer asked whether the man had been drinking. He allegedly grew angry, slapped the volunteer across the face and said, “Don’t challenge me.”
A woman who had been in the sedan then stepped forward to intervene. She apologized to the volunteer and tried to persuade the man to return to the car, but he refused and demanded that police be called to settle the matter.
Two volunteers, identified as Boss and Boat, both 22 years old, said they were upset by the alleged assault but chose to stay calm and step back to avoid a fight while emergency assistance continued. They later contacted Muang Udon Thani Police Station, filed a complaint, documented the incident in a police report and underwent a medical examination, according to their account.
The volunteers said they later learned the man claimed to be a Border Patrol Police officer, although his identity and official status have not been independently confirmed. The assaulted volunteer said he did not seek compensation but wanted a sincere apology and for the man to face legal proceedings. He added that attacking rescue workers while they are helping the public is unacceptable, especially if the perpetrator is a government official.
The volunteers said they have retained video footage of the incident and want the case processed through the legal system to help prevent similar incidents in the future.
