Air-Con Tech Posing as Police Assaults Twin Rescue Volunteers
Twin rescue volunteers in Udon Thani were assaulted by a man impersonating a police officer while helping an accident victim. The suspect is actually an air‑conditioning technician who plays football with local police but falsely claimed to be a Border Patrol Police officer. He is set to face charges this week as the investigation continues.
Twins Boss and Boat, 22‑year‑old volunteers with the Sam Phan Subdistrict Administrative Organization rescue team, filed a complaint via the ‘Help from Hia Peek’ Facebook page after being attacked by a man with cropped hair wearing a shirt marked ‘udon police’. They said he knocked off their helmets, grabbed their face cloths, and punched their necks and the backs of their heads while they were assisting an unconscious accident victim at around 00:30 on October 13. Police Colonel Phatthanawong Chanphon, superintendent of Mueang Udon Thani Police Station, said preliminary checks revealed the suspect is not a police officer; he works as an air‑conditioning technician and merely plays football with local police, yet he told investigators he was a Border Patrol Police officer. Authorities plan to summon him to face charges this Friday, while the twins will give further statements next Tuesday. Today the twins met with Police Lieutenant Colonel Disthawat Thaowarotsipong, deputy superintendent (investigations) and head of the investigation division, to follow up on the case. Disthawat confirmed the suspect lacks any police affiliation despite wearing sports gear linked to police football matches, and reiterated his occupation as an air‑con technician. The investigation will continue to gather evidence, including video footage the volunteers say they have, before any legal action proceeds. Boss and Boat said they stayed calm to avoid retaliation while helping the injured, later filed a complaint and had a medical check‑up. They stressed they do not seek compensation or an apology, but want the man to accept responsibility, apologize sincerely, and face justice to protect volunteers and prevent similar incidents.
