Parliament will debate a 4 trillion baht emergency loan decree on August 26, with opposition parties allocated 8 hours for full scrutiny and examination. On August 21 at Parliament, Ravee Perisnanandakul, an Ang Thong MP from the Phumi Thai Party and chairman of the government coalition coordination committee, announced that the National Assembly will consider a royal decree authorizing the Finance Ministry to borrow funds to address energy sector crises and support the country's energy transition in 2569, totaling 4 trillion baht.

The government has coordinated with the opposition coalition on time allocation, granting opposition members 8 hours of debate time for thorough examination and questioning of the administration. Government lawmakers and ministerial clarifications are allotted 3 hours combined. Deliberations will commence at 9 a.m., with voting expected around 9 p.m.

Ravee added that the government coalition will discuss the decree on August 24, reviewing details, the government's rationale for borrowing, and plans to allocate 2 trillion baht of the loan for energy transition before proceeding to the vote. The coalition preliminarily believes all coalition parties will support the measure without divisions.

Four routes to get you started

Surat Thani | Orchards, Khao Sok and community waterways

Best time for this route: July–August

Start in Nasan, harvesting Nasan Rambutan GI and tasting Nasan Salak before moving into Khao Sok National Park for rainforest scenery. Day two shifts to Cheow Lan Lake, where a long-tail boat journey between limestone cliffs can be paired with Khlong Saeng Durian. Finish at Khlong Noi Community with Khlong Noi Santol GI, followed by canoeing through the Bang Bai Mai Nipa Palm Tunnel and fresh Bang Bai Mai Coconut.

Getting there: Surat Thani can be reached by air or rail, with onward road transfers connecting Nasan, Khao Sok, Rajjaprabha Dam and the community areas. Three days and two nights allow the route to flow naturally from orchards to rainforest and waterways.

Nakhon Si Thammarat | Heritage, mountain orchards and community life

Best time for this route: July–September

Begin at Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and explore Nakhon Si Thammarat Old Town, with a taste of mangkhut khat, or peeled young mangosteen prepared as a local speciality. Continue to Khiriwong Community for Khao Khiriwong Mangosteen, a streamside local lunch, cafés and crafts. On the final day, try bamboo rafting at Ban Wang Hon and sample its preserved durian paste.

Getting there: Fly into Nakhon Si Thammarat and continue by road to the city and Khiriwong. A night in town followed by a night in Khiriwong keeps transfers manageable while allowing more time for community activities.

Krabi | Durian, clear water and the Andaman coast

Best time for this route: July–August

Begin inland with Talay Hoi Durian GI, noted for its smooth golden flesh and rich, creamy sweetness, then visit Wat Tham Prasat Nala Kiring, taste Phu Tawan Robusta Coffee and explore Wat Khao Hua Sing. The next day brings kayaking at Khlong Root, a long-tail boat trip to Khao Garos and Ban Nai Nang, and sunset at Ao Nang. Leave the final day for Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park, with an island-hopping or scenic boat trip.

Getting there: Fly into Krabi International Airport and continue by road for the inland section. Staying first in or around Krabi town and then at Ao Nang lets the journey progress naturally from orchard country towards the Andaman coast.

Phang Nga | Salika Durian from Kapong to Khao Lak

Best time for this route: July–August

Start at a Kapong fruit orchard with Salika Durian GI, then relax at Plai Phu Hot Spring. Continue to Tamnang Waterfall, add a farm-to-table Southern lunch and drive onwards to Khao Lak. For the final day, choose between Phang Nga Bay by long-tail boat or the nature trail and coastline of Khao Lak–Lam Ru National Park, and look for Thip Phang Nga Mangosteen GI locally.

Salika Durian is typically in season from May–July, so travellers making the fruit itself the focus should confirm availability before travelling.

Getting there: Phuket International Airport is a practical gateway for Khao Lak, with onward travel by road. A private transfer or hire car is particularly useful when including Kapong, as the route connects inland orchard country with the Andaman coast.

Make the fruit part of the journey

The idea is not simply to stop, taste and leave. Allow time for orchard visits, local meals, community activities, markets, crafts and nearby natural or cultural attractions. Seasonal weather can also affect boat trips and outdoor activities, so build some flexibility into the itinerary and check local conditions before setting out.

A woman was filmed in a compromising situation under the Talad Phlu overpass on Wuthakad Road. The man who posted the video apologized, saying he did not realize it would become such a major incident. He announced he is quitting social media. Authorities are coordinating with support agencies to prevent similar incidents in the future.

At 11:00 on August 21, 2025, Tun Ot Pen Nung traveled to assist a young woman who was filmed without consent. The incident occurred beneath the Talad Phlu overpass on Wuthakad Road. Tun Ot coordinated with Deputy Police Captain Chatthaphoomi Muksaken, chief of Talad Phlu Station, and Jirasek Wattanmongkol, known as Nim in Thonburi District. Talad Phlu Station questioned the poster, the boyfriend, and the woman about the incident.

Paisit, 59, the man who posted the video, apologized for what happened. He said the two people were like his children, so he filmed them playfully without thinking it would become such a serious matter. Both frequently drank alcohol together. Regarding his slurred speech, he explained it was due to his cerebral artery condition, which makes him sound intoxicated. He stated he is quitting social media, saying what he thought would be fun is no longer enjoyable.

Pakdee, 51, the boyfriend of Ms. A, 30, who appeared in the video, apologized to society for his actions. He was heavily intoxicated when the incident occurred. He confirmed he has been with his girlfriend for about six months and that the uncle who filmed the video is a relative. He pleaded with anyone who has the video to delete it.

Tun Ot Pen Nung stated that after receiving the complaint, he coordinated with police and Thonburi District officials. The woman was found to have a history of drug addiction; after quitting drugs, she turned to alcohol. The incident resulted from conflict between the poster and the woman's circle. The viral video disturbed the public, who mistakenly believed the woman in the clip was a youth, though she is actually 30 years old. Tun Ot coordinated with community development officers from Thonburi District Office to inspect and monitor the area to prevent repeated problems. Multiple agencies will be tasked with managing the incident location to prevent it from becoming a lawless zone.

Jirasek said he coordinated with Thonburi District Office to monitor the incident site, improve cleanliness, and check for vagrants and mentally unstable individuals. Officials will work to keep such people away from the area, with municipal officers conducting periodic inspections.

Deputy Police Captain Chatthaphoomi Muksaken, chief of Talad Phlu Station, said the poster was warned and some posts were deleted. Because the poster struggled to delete them himself, officers assisted with removal. The poster did not anticipate the incident would have such wide-ranging impact. Police have not yet filed any charges.

The Department of Local Administration has clarified allegations regarding the 2023 subdistrict chief examination, asserting that the selection process followed legal procedures and that current ministry leadership is not involved. On August 21, 2025, the department issued a statement responding to complaints filed with a parliamentary committee about irregularities in the 2023 exam and concerns over answer sheets bearing incorrect year stamps.

The department stated that the examination selection process for civil servants to enroll in the subdistrict chief training programme began in February 2023 and was completed by April 2023. The selection process adhered to all procedures, standards, and methods prescribed by law. Related agencies have already conducted their investigations and notified complainants of the results.

The department firmly asserted that the examination took place entirely before the current Interior Ministry leadership assumed office. However, the department noted that if complainants believe they were treated unfairly, they may pursue remedies through legal channels as prescribed by law.

Siam Commercial Bank's Economic Intelligence Center has trimmed its 2025 GDP forecast to 1.9%, citing exhausted government measures and the absence of a new economic driver. The bank presented its analysis at a Wealth Community event examining global and Thai economic outlooks for the second half of 2025.

SCB EIC forecasts global economic growth of 2.5% in 2025, supported by artificial intelligence infrastructure investment and strong electronics demand. Thailand's economy is projected to expand 2% in 2025, bolstered by government measures, exports, and private investment. However, growth will follow a pronounced K-shaped pattern, with large businesses and technology-linked sectors such as AI, data centers, electronics, and digital infrastructure capturing most gains. Oil prices are expected to decline gradually in the third and fourth quarters but may not return to pre-war averages in the near term, keeping energy and transport costs as drags on the economy.

Trade tensions remain a source of uncertainty, though their impact on global commerce has proven less severe than anticipated. Asian trade continues expanding, as the region serves as a critical manufacturing base for technology products and AI supply chains, with strong U.S. import demand for these goods even as other imports slow. China's exports to the United States have contracted, but it has offset this by expanding sales within Southeast Asia.

SCB EIC forecasts global growth of 2.5% in 2025, edging up slightly to 2.6% in 2026 compared to 2.8% in 2024. Investment tied to artificial intelligence and electronics demand will remain the primary drivers, anchoring the global economy amid war-related pressures and tight financial conditions.
