Senator Pisit Abhiwatpongpong has criticized the Department of Special Investigation's involvement in election inquiries as unfair and questioned whether such oversight meets proper standards. During a Senate debate on September 21, he noted that Section 49 of the Election Commission Organic Act creates an unclear boundary between the independent Election Commission and other state investigative bodies, particularly the Department of Special Investigation under the Justice Ministry. He asked whether DSI investigation of elections could be called standard practice.
Pisit further questioned whether allowing party-affiliated officials to lead investigations alongside an independent agency could truly be fair. He expressed frustration with Thailand's cycle of street mobilizations, coups, and new constitutions since 2007, stating that the country should respect legal processes rather than repeat old patterns. "I am tired of calls for street protests and military coups to draft new constitutions. Thailand has written multiple constitutions because people cannot wait for proper administration," he said, calling on lawmakers to respect the Election Commission's rulings.
