Families were deeply worried about seven fishermen who took a longtail boat out to sea and lost contact. The Trang Marine Department, under Marine Department Region 3, was alerted at 10:30 AM on October 29, 2026, by relatives that Mr. Wisut (surname withheld) and six others had departed from Kuan Thung Khu Pier in Trang at 7:00 AM on October 28 to go fishing. The next morning, they called to say they were heading toward Kradan Island before contact was lost, raising fears of an accident at sea.
Officials immediately coordinated with marine agencies, including the Krabi Marine Department, to mobilize local networks, fishing boats, tour boats, ferries, and vessels near Rok Island off the Trang coast to assist in the search. Around noon, as winds and waves calmed and skies cleared, patrol teams resumed searching and found two men signaling for help on the eastern rocky outcrop of Rok Nok Island. They confirmed they were from the missing boat and reported five more friends floating in the sea.
Rescue boats quickly reached the nearby area and located all five men floating in open water, bringing all seven aboard safely. They were taken to the National Park Protection Unit at Station 1 (Rok Island) and provided with food and initial care.
All seven are residents of Na Tho Ming Subdistrict, Mueang District, Trang Province. However, despite the successful rescue, returning them to the mainland remained difficult due to 3-4 meter high waves. The Trang Marine Department dispatched boats to retrieve them but could not safely reach Rok Island and had to return to shore to wait for calmer conditions.
Meanwhile, relatives gathered at Kuan Thung Khu Pier, anxiously awaiting good news. Trang Marine Department officers kept close watch and urged the public to monitor weather announcements and avoid taking small boats out during rough seas to prevent similar dangers.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and are prepared to transport all seven survivors back to the mainland once sea conditions improve, ensuring everyone returns safely to their families.
