Hat Yai Volleyball Prodigy Leads Team to National Finals
Southern Thailand volleyball prodigy Naphasorn "Bam" Desro from Hat Yai has led her school team Eng Siang Samakkhi to the national finals of the 2026 Prime Minister Youth Cup. The 17-year-old outside hitter's journey from a small Songkhla school to the national stage highlights the region's strong youth volleyball development pipeline. Her team will compete in the group stage in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya this November for a shot at the championship.
In the current youth volleyball scene, the name "Bam" Naphasorn Desro has become a rising star drawing widespread attention with her aggressive playing style, powerful and accurate spikes, and fighting spirit beyond her years. But before becoming a key starting spiker in the national finals, her journey began with a single dream: to wear the Thai national team jersey.
Bam began her volleyball journey at Ban Na Thawi School in Songkhla, where Coach Niphas Yosom was the first to spot her potential, carefully honing her fundamental skills and igniting the young girl's ambition to aim higher. Through determination and training discipline, she earned a transfer to Hat Yai Municipality 1 School (Eng Siang Samakkhi) in Hat Yai District, Songkhla, a leading volleyball talent factory in the South, to elevate her game further.
Under the tutelage of Coach Pornchai Phu Thong Ngam Na, Bam developed in technique, physical condition, and game focus. In the 2026 Prime Minister Youth Cup (PMYC), she and her teammates had to battle through the first round in Phatthalung Province, a showdown among Southern zone teams. Bam showcased outstanding form, with decisive attacks from the outside hitter position and heavy, precisely angled spikes, guiding her team through the Phatthalung qualifiers and into the national finals.
From the training courts of Na Thawi, through the Phatthalung qualifiers, to the national championship stage, Bam Naphasorn Desro has proven that an unwavering dream combined with experience guided by coaches who gave her opportunity is the driving force propelling her toward her goal of becoming a Thai national team athlete in the future.
For the national finals, the girls' team will compete in the group stage from November 19-24, 2026 at the Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Provincial Central Stadium Gymnasium. Hat Yai Municipality 1 School (Eng Siang Samakkhi), Songkhla, the Southern Region Runner-up, is in Group B alongside Central Region Runner-up Pornpetch Community Municipality School (Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya), Eastern Region Champion Wat Nong Kho Community School (Chonburi), Western Region Runner-up Thep Mongkol Rangsee School (Kanchanaburi), Northern Region Runner-up Sukhothai Wittayakom School (Sukhothai), and Northern Region Champion Prince Royal's College (Chiang Mai). The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals on November 26-27, 2026 at the same venue to vie for a spot in the final.
