Court Detains Bum Panadda, Got Athip in Extortion Case
Thai socialite Bum Panadda and her husband Got Athip were remanded in custody on 7 November after the Ratchadaphisek Criminal Court rejected bail requests. Bum faces multiple charges including fraud, computer data forgery, and extortion conspiracy, while Athip is charged with extortion conspiracy. Bum declined to seek bail, and both were ordered to separate detention facilities pending trial.
On 7 November at the Ratchadaphisek Criminal Court, Department of Special Investigation officers brought Panadda Wongphudi (Bum), chairwoman of the Do Good Foundation, and Athip Ananthawan (Got), her husband, to be remanded in custody. Bum is accused of colluding to defraud the public, introducing forged or false computer data likely to cause public harm, and conspiring to commit extortion, including carrying out extortion as a result of the conspiracy. Athip is charged with conspiring to commit extortion and committing extortion through that conspiracy. Reporters noted that only Athip filed a temporary release petition with collateral. The court was still considering the petition when, at 14:19, it was reported that Panadda did not wish to seek release at this level. The court then prepared a detention order for officials to transfer her to the Central Women's Correctional Institution. Regarding Athip, after reviewing his petition, the court ordered the petition dismissed and issued a detention order for his transfer to Bangkok Special Prison.
