Foreign Tenant Arrested, Ending Months of Harassment in Chiang Mai
A foreign tenant who terrorized a Chiang Mai neighborhood for months with late-night screaming, property damage, and erratic behavior has been arrested for shoplifting. Residents had repeatedly complained to authorities, but police could not act until he was caught stealing from a convenience store. The landlord has since reclaimed the property and ended the lease, while the community urges better tenant screening.
Residents in a Chiang Mai housing estate have returned to peaceful lives after a foreign tenant who created constant turmoil for months was arrested for shoplifting at a convenience store. The man had repeatedly screamed and wandered shirtless around 4:00-5:00 AM, shouted and gestured wildly in front of multiple houses, triggering dogs to bark throughout the alley. He also smashed neighbors' fences, rode his motorcycle blasting the horn, and destroyed property inside his own rental unit. A community representative said the behavior escalated over several months. Residents had filed multiple complaints, and police once searched the house, finding the man was a drug user, but could not pursue charges. Only after he was caught stealing from a nearby convenience store was he taken into custody. Since his arrest, he has not returned to the area, bringing relief to the neighborhood. However, it remains unconfirmed whether he is still detained or has been released on bail and moved elsewhere. The landlord has reclaimed the property and terminated the lease. The community representative urged landlords and agents to screen tenants carefully, noting this individual had reportedly caused similar problems at previous rentals.
