Severe Flooding Submerges Ayutthaya Across 16 Districts, One Death Reported
Severe flooding has inundated 16 districts and 205 subdistricts in Ayutthaya Province, affecting nearly 60,000 households and causing one death. Residents report water levels up to three metres, forcing them to use boats for daily travel and prompting urgent calls for faster drainage. Authorities are building earthen barriers on highways while urging professional water management to alleviate the crisis.
Officials from Ayutthaya’s Provincial Office of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said the flood has impacted 16 districts, 205 subdistricts, 1,338 villages and 63 communities, affecting 59,633 households with one fatality in Sai Hai district. In Ban Krasom subdistrict’s Moo 7 village, water reached 2‑3 metres deep, flooding homes to floor level and cutting off road access, forcing residents to use boats for transport. Overflow from the Noi River crossed Highway 3454 (Sai Hai‑Pak Hai) at several points, prompting highway workers to build earthen barriers to stop water from spilling onto the road. Local resident Vaswit Inkhong, 50, said the water rose a metre in just three days, leaving families little time to move belongings; he borrowed 7,000 baht to buy a boat for work, shopping and moving goods. Elderly resident Saithong Kulpha, 65, who guided reporters by boat, said the community has been flooded for about two weeks, with water rising nearly two metres in the first three days. She expressed exhaustion from yearly floods that now arrive faster and last longer, noting that despite raising homes and preparing for water, levels still reach doorsteps, making life and travel difficult without a boat. She appealed to water‑management agencies to speed up drainage and avoid simply letting water accumulate in retention areas.
