Thai TV host Kornchai criticized the Chai Nat provincial PR office after it accused the media of chasing clout for reporting on an elderly woman who waded through floodwaters to buy fish sauce because she refused to eat salt. Kornchai questioned whether the agency was embarrassed and defended the story as legitimate news. The woman, stranded on an island with her dog, had no access to boats or relief supplies.
TV host Kornchai angrily challenged the media after the Chai Nat provincial public relations office accused outlets of chasing clout by reporting on an elderly woman who waded through floodwaters to buy fish sauce because she refused to eat salt. On October 6, 2024, Kornchai shared a post from the Chai Nat PR-Chainat Facebook page, which condemned social media for sensationalizing the story, saying: 'All agencies in Chai Nat are fully mobilized to help residents; we report sometimes, but why create drama over the woman fetching fish sauce? Are you just after publicity or what? Where is your ethics?' Kornchai retorted, asking if they were afraid of losing face, and added: 'Are you afraid of losing face, that’s why you posted like that? The media reported the woman didn’t want to eat salt, so she walked through the water to buy fish sauce. Is your agency harmed by this? Are you just hungry for praise, or do you want Uncle Add Carabao to write a song for you? Come on.' The post drew a flood of comments. Source: Kornchai.
