Thai Airways Will Resume Full Service by Oct 3
Thai Airways expects to resume full service by October 3 after clearing a backlog of baggage and cargo. The Ministry of Transport, together with airport operator AOT and logistics firm BFS, has added 4,000 square metres of storage and upgraded data‑sharing systems to speed up the process. Extra call‑center staff and partners like FedEx and DHL will deliver luggage directly to passengers within two days.
The Ministry of Transport and Thai Airways announced progress in clearing the backlog of baggage and cargo after urgent talks with executives and relevant agencies. Deputy Prime Minister Pipat Ratchakitprahan said the situation is steadily improving and that normal full‑scale operations will resume on October 3. To accelerate the process, Thai Airways has partnered with the Airports of Thailand (AOT) and Bangkok Worldwide Access Services (BFS) to add about 4,000 square metres of storage space in Area 4 and the BFS zone, enabling systematic clearance of goods and luggage. AOT is also upgrading its data‑link system so customs officials, airlines and cargo agents can access a single, accurate and up‑to‑date information set. For passenger baggage, the airline has sorted and moved items to secure storage, added 24 extra call‑center lines to contact travellers directly, and teamed up with global carriers FedEx and DHL for door‑to‑door delivery alongside Thailand Post, aiming to clear all luggage within two days. Flight operations are also being scaled back, with outbound flights expected to operate at no less than 80% capacity, gradually increasing to 100% by October 3. Pipat thanked the Royal Thai Air Force for providing 123 personnel to help move luggage and unload cargo, and urged the public to have confidence that Thai Airways will return to full normal service on the promised date.
