Thai Airways Requests Air Force Support for Baggage Backlog
Thai Airways is requesting military support from the Royal Thai Air Force to help clear a baggage backlog at Suvarnabhumi Airport caused by staff shortages from flooding and worker fatigue.
Thai Airways CEO Chai Eamsiri revealed on September 27 that the airline is holding meetings to address delays in baggage handling and passenger flights, which have left Thai Airways passengers stranded at Suvarnabhumi Airport. The delays stem from insufficient ground staff, as some employees have been unable to reach work due to flooding, while existing staff have grown fatigued after working multiple consecutive days. Thai Airways has contacted the Royal Thai Air Force to request military personnel to assist with ground operations and resolve the issue. More than 100 pieces of baggage are pending delivery, and the airline expects to handle only a portion today, with work likely continuing tomorrow. Suvarnabhumi Airport confirmed that the delays are caused by Thai Airways' shortage of ground staff resulting from flood-related obstacles.
