May Rachanok Falls to World No. 1 An Se-young, Exits Asian Games
Thailand's top-ranked women's badminton player May Rachanok Intanon was eliminated from the Asian Games in Japan after losing decisively to world No. 1 An Se-young, leaving only one Thai player remaining in the tournament.
Thailand's badminton contingent at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya 2026 advanced to the quarterfinals at Ichinomiya City Gymnasium in Nagoya. In women's singles, May Rachanok Intanon could not overcome world No. 1 An Se-young, the reigning Asian Games and Olympic champion, and lost decisively 0-2 with set scores of 8-21 and 9-21, ending Thailand's campaign in that event.
The mixed doubles team of Rutsthon Upthong and Chaernnisa Sudjaipreecha also exited after a 0-2 loss (18-21, 14-21) to Taiwan's Hong Wei-ye and Nicole Gonzalez Chan.
With these eliminations, Thai badminton now has only Kulwut Withitsanat remaining in men's singles as the nation's sole survivor in the tournament.
