Thai Badminton Star Som Wins Vietnam Open Title
Thai badminton player Som Saralrak Wittisarn won her first World Tour title at the Vietnam Open, defeating India's Isharani Baruah 21-8, 21-15 in the singles final.
Som Saralrak Wittisarn, ranked 106th in the world, has captured her first World Tour title at the Vietnam Open 2026 Super 100 badminton tournament. On September 14, Som and her mixed doubles partners Noel Phuwanath Hopbanlueakij and Guangdong Fungfa Kopronthakij returned to Thailand at Suvarnabhumi Airport, where Mandal Satchuekr, chairman of the Badminton Association of Thailand, welcomed them warmly.
In the singles final, Som defeated India's Isharani Baruah, ranked 39th globally, with a dominant 21-8, 21-15 victory to claim the championship and prize money of $8,250, equivalent to approximately 270,000 baht. In the mixed doubles, Noel and Guangdong fell to China's Ma Si and Chin Hui Ji in a close contest, 22-20, 18-21, 19-21, earning a consolation prize of $4,180, or roughly 130,000 baht.
