Thailand's Deputy PM has ordered an investigation into claims that security personnel used excessive force against a Chinese citizen at a book fair, following a complaint from the Chinese Embassy.
Deputy Prime Minister Sihsaket Phuangketkaew has ordered an investigation into allegations that Thai security personnel used excessive force against a Chinese citizen at a book fair event and removed him from the venue. Speaking at Sanam Luang on July 28 at 8 a.m., Sihsaket addressed the Chinese Embassy's public statement requesting Thailand to investigate the incident, saying he has ordered a fact-finding inquiry. When asked about Thai users posting critical comments on the Chinese Embassy's social media page, Sihsaket said the embassy had to clarify its position, but the actual facts must first be verified. He expressed understanding of the various concerns while emphasizing that establishing the truth and ensuring fairness to all parties would be preferable. Regarding whether Thailand needs to coordinate with the Chinese Embassy on the matter, Sihsaket stated that gathering the facts first is better, and further discussions can follow once the investigation results are known. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring fairness for all involved.
