Thai Meteorological Department Warns of Thunderstorms Across 31 Provinces
The Thai Meteorological Department warns of thunderstorms across 31 provinces, with heavy rain affecting 60% of the south and sea waves over two metres high. The forecast cites a weakening southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand as the cause. Mariners are advised to avoid areas with thunderstorms.
In the north, thunderstorms are expected over 20% of the area, mainly Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Phitsanulok and Phetchabun, with temperatures ranging from 22 to 26°C lows and 31 to 36°C highs, and southwest winds of 10–20 km/h. The northeast will see thunderstorms over 30% of the area, focused on Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket and Ubon Ratchathani, with lows of 23–25°C, highs of 34–36°C and west winds of 10–20 km/h. Central Thailand faces thunderstorms over 30% of the area, mainly Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Lopburi and Saraburi, with lows of 23–26°C, highs of 34–36°C and south winds of 10–20 km/h. The east will experience thunderstorms over 30% of the area, mainly Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trad, with lows of 24–26°C, highs of 31–34°C, south winds of 15–30 km/h and sea waves around one metre, higher than two metres in storm zones. Southern Thailand’s eastern coast predicts thunderstorms over 40% of the area, covering Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla and Yala, with lows of 23–25°C, highs of 33–36°C, southeasterly winds of 15–30 km/h and similar sea conditions. The western coast from Phangnga to Satun expects thunderstorms over 60% of the area, with lows of 23–25°C, highs of 33–36°C; north of Phangnga brings southwest winds of 15–35 km/h and sea waves of 1–2 metres, while south of Phuket has southwest winds of 15–30 km/h and waves around one metre, both exceeding two metres in thunderstorm areas. Bangkok and vicinity will have thunderstorms over 30% of the area, with temperatures between 26–27°C lows and 34–36°C highs and south winds of 10–20 km/h.
