Thai Volleyball Association Seeks National Training Center but Faces 200 Million Baht Budget Gap
The Volleyball Association of Thailand aims to build a dedicated national training center to strengthen youth development but lacks the over 200 million baht needed for construction and ongoing operations. President Somphop Sae Bang Yang says the association is ready to move forward with government or private sector backing and is open to integrating volleyball facilities into a broader sports complex.
Volleyball Association of Thailand president Somphop Sae Bang Yang revealed that the idea of a dedicated national volleyball training center has been discussed for years. Former executives, including Air Vice Marshal Chanrit Wongprasert, even scouted potential land plots, but the project stalled due to insufficient funds. The association notes the cost covers not only construction but also long-term management expenses, which the organization cannot shoulder alone. While acknowledging the financial constraints, Somphop emphasized the center is essential for securing structured youth development. He noted that former honorary president and architect Professor Disakul Kunthorn had previously designed a training center concept. The association is now seeking government and private support, and is open to incorporating volleyball facilities into a larger sports complex with accommodation and training courts.
