Thailand Beach Soccer Coach Targets 2027 World Cup Qualification

Thailand’s beach soccer head coach Setrakornchai Chuenta is targeting a historic semi‑final finish at the 2026 AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup to secure a spot for the national team at the 2027 Beach Soccer World Cup. The squad is training at the National Sports Stadium in Hua Mak and will play its group matches in Phangnga against Japan, Iraq and Bahrain from November 18‑22. Oman, led by former Asian runner‑up coach Tolib Hilal al‑Thanawe, is seen as the main rival for a qualifying place.

Setrakornchai Chuenta said he first coached the Thailand beach soccer team in 2003 and 2005, reaching the quarter-finals each time, but noted that only three Asian teams advance to the World Cup. For his third stint as head coach in 2026, his goal is to reach the semi-finals for the first time in history and secure a World Cup berth. He added that the team has already planned player selection for the group stage, quarter-finals, semi-finals and beyond, stressing the need to earn the required points.

Team captain Ntee Gipon said the squad’s tactical understanding and physical condition have improved to over eighty percent, aiming to reach the semi-finals and make history by sending three Thai teams to the World Cup. He identified Oman as the main rival for a qualifying spot.

Oman’s head coach, Tolib Hilal al-Thanawe, who guided the side to a recent Asian runners‑up finish, has called up 16 players for a training camp in Belarus from October 13‑20, including warm‑up matches against Belarus on October 16 and Iran, four‑time Asian champions, on October 17. The Omani squad retains nine core players from their 2025 Asian runners‑up team, including goalkeeper Yunis Al-Owaisi, who has FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2025 experience.

In the Asian Cup, the top two teams from each group and the two best third‑placed teams advance to the next round, from which the champion, runner‑up and third‑place finisher qualify for the 2027 Beach Soccer World Cup.

Thailand’s group‑stage schedule at the Ban Nam Kem beach soccer field in Takua Pa, Phangnga is: - November 18, 18:30: Thailand vs Iraq - November 20, 18:30: Bahrain vs Thailand - November 22, 18:30: Thailand vs Japan
