Thailand Launches Disaster Insurance for Floods, Storms, Quakes
Thailand's National Disaster Insurance begins on 1 October, offering coverage for flood, windstorm and earthquake to 30 million households nationwide. It provides an initial payout of 10,000 baht for flood damage and 5,000 baht for windstorm or earthquake, with total compensation up to 100,000 baht per household and a 2 million‑baht death benefit. Claims can be filed online, via LINE, by phone or at on‑site points within 15 days.
The scheme, effective 00:00 on 1 October 2026, aims to deliver rapid compensation when disasters strike. For flood damage, the insurance pays an initial 10,000 baht per household per incident; for windstorm or earthquake damage, the initial payment is 5,000 baht per household per incident.
Additional compensation is based on actual loss, with a maximum total payout of 100,000 baht per household per incident. In case of death resulting from a covered disaster, the policy provides a death benefit of 2,000,000 baht. Claims can be submitted via the website www.thainatcat.org, the LINE official account @ThaiNATCAT, the call centre at 02-012-5555 (300 lines), or at on‑site reporting points. Required documents include photos of the damage, proof of ownership, and a PromptPay account for receiving the compensation. Information materials will be distributed to the public.
