Thailand's Digital Content Industry Set to Reach 600 Billion Baht in Three Years
Thailand's digital content industry is projected to reach 631.68 billion baht by 2027, but imported content dominates at 78% of the market value while Thai producers capture only a small portion despite steady growth.
The Digital Economy Promotion Agency reported on September 3, 2026 that Thailand's digital content industry is expected to maintain steady growth over the next three years, reaching 575.13 billion baht in 2025, 601.87 billion baht in 2026, and 631.68 billion baht in 2027, compared to 534.17 billion baht in 2024, representing 6% expansion from the previous year.
Growth drivers include expanding domestic consumption, particularly in character merchandise, which has grown fourfold in two years, bolstered by both Thai consumers and international tourists, evident in new art toy store openings in major tourism zones and localized product development. The gaming industry is supported by PC platform expansion, manufacturing outsourcing returning to Thailand, regional business opportunities hosted by Thailand, and the forthcoming Games Industry Promotion Act, which will serve as a key catalyst for elevating Thailand's digital content sector into an ASEAN regional hub.
However, structural challenges remain: while 2025 consumption reached 509.88 billion baht, growing 7% year-on-year, imports accounted for 417.35 billion baht—78% of total industry value. Thai businesses produced only 116.82 billion baht, growing just 3%, while exports fell 22% to 24.29 billion baht, showing limited benefits for local producers despite market growth. Domestic consumption, especially in character products, carries concentration risk from dependence on foreign tourist spending; Thai tourism arrivals dropped 7% to 32.97 million in 2025, with revenue falling 5% to 1.54 trillion baht, particularly from China's 30% decline. Officials stress the priority is not expanding the market but increasing Thai entrepreneurs' share of existing growth through domestic intellectual property creation and policies encouraging platform registration.
