Two Men Arrested for Online Game Item Scam Targeting Children
Police arrested two men for defrauding children and teenagers through fake online gaming accounts, tricking victims into paying for items never delivered and causing hundreds of thousands of baht in losses.
Police arrested two men on September 2 for running an online game item scam targeting children and young people. Metropolitan Police Bureau commander Chotwat Luang Wilai ordered units from the Metropolitan Police Bureau and Bang Yai Police Station to arrest the suspects, who were wanted by Nonthaburi Provincial Court on charges of fraud, computer crime, and facilitating unauthorized use of bank accounts and digital wallets.
One suspect was arrested at a rental home in Nong Khem, Bangkok, while the other was arrested in the Praset Charoen area. Both confessed to the scheme, which involved creating fake gaming accounts to impersonate trustworthy players. They would conduct legitimate-looking in-game trades to build credibility, then use the game's chat function to befriend victims—many of them children and teenagers—before convincing them to transfer money for weapons or items that were never delivered. The scam caused losses totaling hundreds of thousands of baht.
