Two Teenagers Arrested for Online Game Item Scams
Police arrested two teenagers for defrauding online gamers by posing as trustworthy players and scamming them out of game items worth hundreds of thousands of baht through chat channels.
On September 2, Deputy Police Commissioner Chotiwat Luangvilai ordered officers from the Metropolitan Police Division and Bang Yai Police Station to arrest Nathkrit (nickname Fiat) and Siripong (nickname Non) on warrants issued by Nonthaburi Provincial Court. They are accused of conspiracy to commit fraud, unauthorized computer system access, and allowing others to use their bank accounts and electronic payment systems.
Fiat was arrested at a rental house on Petchkasem Soi 114 in Nong Khang Plu, Nong Khae District, Bangkok. Non was arrested at a rental house on Petchkasem Soi 63 in Bang Duan, Phasi Charoen District, Bangkok. Both suspects confessed to participating in the scam operation.
Investigators uncovered the scheme through ongoing tracking. The suspects created fake accounts and posed as legitimate, trustworthy players in online games. They conducted fake transactions to build credibility, then used in-game chat channels—both text and voice—to befriend victims, many of whom were children and youth. Once victims trusted them, the scammers would arrange payment transfers for virtual weapons or items that were never delivered, causing losses totaling hundreds of thousands of baht.
