Deputy Governor Inspects Buriram Building After Tremors
Over 100 staff evacuated Buriram Municipality's office building after experiencing unexplained tremors on September 2, but inspections found no structural damage and authorities confirmed the building remains safe for use.
More than 100 staff members at Buriram Municipality office evacuated the five-story building on September 2 after experiencing noticeable tremors that caused desks to shift and floor fans to sway. At approximately 3:30 p.m., Deputy Governor Sritham Ratchkaew and officials from the provincial disaster prevention office inspected the building alongside municipal officials and engineers. Initial inspections of the fourth and fifth floors, where the strongest shaking was felt, found no new cracks or structural damage.
Buriram Municipality Mayor Anuchit Luang Chaisri said the building, constructed in 2554 (2011), had never previously reported such vibrations. He experienced three episodes of brief tremors lasting approximately five seconds each, causing dizziness, prompting him to order all staff to evacuate for safety. No injuries were reported. After the inspection, authorities confirmed the office building remains structurally safe and will resume normal operations.
Deputy Governor Sritham reported that officials checked with the Earthquake Monitoring Center, which has a station in Nang Rong District, and found no recorded earthquakes in Buriram Province. However, an earthquake was recorded in Phong District, Phayao Province on the same day. The tremors were also reported at Tveekij shopping mall and Robinson shopping mall in Buriram City. Officials emphasized this was a minor tremor event with no structural impact, and the municipal office is safe for public use.
