Mysterious Tremors Shake Buriram City Hall, No Earthquake Detected
Three mysterious tremors shook Buriram City Hall and nearby shopping centers on September 2, prompting evacuations, though seismic equipment detected no earthquake and structural inspections found no damage.
On September 2, officials at Buriram City Hall and two major shopping centers detected three mysterious tremors, each lasting 5-10 seconds. The tremors prompted Buriram Mayor Anuchit Luangchaisri to order about 100 staff members to evacuate the four-and-a-half-story concrete City Hall building, constructed in 2011, for safety reasons and to suspend public services.
Deputy Governor of Buriram Province and relevant agencies immediately inspected the buildings and found no cracks or structural damage. The Meteorological Department's Earthquake Monitoring Center confirmed that seismic monitoring equipment detected no earthquake activity related to the incident. Buriram City Hall announced it would conduct additional equipment checks with relevant agencies to determine the actual cause and reassure employees and the public.
By the following day, staff had returned to work normally. Most employees showed little concern, though many discussed the incident. The 15-year-old building had never experienced similar events and passed all safety inspections. Shopping centers Thavee Keej Supercentre and Robinson also reopened normally with no reported damage.
