Thailand Sends 28 Youth Athletes to Dakar 2026 Games
Twenty‑eight Thai youth athletes are set to compete at the 2026 Dakar Youth Olympic Games, the first Olympic‑level event ever held in Africa. The Sports Authority of Thailand is providing full support and will open a ‘Thai House’ in Dakar to monitor the team closely. Thailand aims for strong performances, targeting medals or personal‑best records across eleven sports.
The Thai youth delegation comprises 28 athletes in eleven sports: athletics (2), badminton (2), beach handball (10), beach volleyball (2), boxing (2), judo (1), rowing (2), cycling (1), windsurfing (2), aquatics (2) and table tennis (2). Sports Authority of Thailand Governor Pradporn Samanmit said the team has been training since August 2026, with full backing from the authority, and that a ‘Thai House’ will be established in Dakar with sports‑science staff to monitor the athletes closely. She added that the goal is for each athlete to perform to the best of their ability, aiming either for medals or personal‑best records. The Dakar 2026 Youth Olympics will feature full gender equality, with equal numbers of male and female competitors for the first time in Youth Olympic history, and will award 153 gold medals across 25 sports. Thailand’s past Youth Olympic performances include four golds and three silvers in Singapore 2010 (14th), three golds, two silvers and three bronzes in Nanjing 2014 (18th), and five golds, five silvers and two bronzes in Buenos Aires 2018 (13th).
