District Chief Ends Village Feud With Oath Water Ceremony
The district chief of Sop Moey mediated a dispute in Mae Hong Son province that stemmed from a child's dream, which had led to threats to evict seven families. After three mediation sessions, the parties agreed to end the conflict, drink oath water at Wat Saentong, and live together peacefully. Authorities will monitor the situation to ensure lasting harmony and prevent further clashes.
After three rounds of talks, the two sides agreed to end the feud, shook hands, and pledged to coexist peacefully. The district chief stressed that accusations based on personal belief are wrong and that evicting residents is illegal as long as the families earn honest livelihoods and do not harm others. Following the agreement, both parties will proceed to Wat Saentong in Omkoi District, Chiang Mai, to perform the oath‑water drinking ceremony as a binding pledge. The district chief plans to visit Ban Huay Hiiya School on October 9 at 10:00 a.m. to further engage villagers and promote understanding. Huay Hiiya village, Moo 5, Pak Phong subdistrict, Sop Moey district, Mae Hong Son province, lies about 70 kilometers from the district office, has a population of 514 (241 men, 273 women) and 152 households. Police from Kong Koi station, supported by provincial investigators and local administration, will maintain a security presence to protect the seven families and enforce the law if any rights are violated again, preventing outsiders from reigniting the dispute.
