Deputy PM Supajee Welcomes Interpellation as Chance to Explain Work
Deputy Prime Minister Supajee Suthammaphun said she is not worried about an opposition no-confidence debate, seeing it as a chance to explain her work, especially her oversight of the economy. She stated she feels no pressure over economic issues and is ready to answer any questions, including those about her live-streamed durian sales, which she said have performed well this year. Supajee emphasized that it is the opposition's role to question and the government's duty to respond.
At 2:00 p.m. on October 8, 2026, at Government House, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Supajee Suthammaphun gave an interview regarding her inclusion among 18 ministers facing an opposition no-confidence motion. She said the interpellation presents a good chance to detail what she has done that benefits the public, although she had not yet seen the specific points to be raised. She emphasized that her role in overseeing the overall economy naturally invites opposition scrutiny, and it is the opposition's duty to ask while the government must respond. She stressed that the situation is neither beyond nor below expectations.
When asked whether she felt any anxiety about economic issues, Supajee said she felt none, noting only the need to adapt to uncontrollable circumstances such as natural disasters and conflicts, which require careful management. Responding to a question about whether she had anticipated the opposition's lines of inquiry, she said she saw nothing unexpected; if asked why the economy has not grown as projected or why certain targets were missed, she would have ready answers and welcomed the opportunity to clarify.
On the possibility of the opposition bringing up her live-streamed durian sales, she replied that it would be fine and would allow her to explain that durian sales this year have far exceeded last year's, despite various challenges, and there is no problem. When pressed again about whether she was startled by being named in the interpellation, she said she was not, and had no expectation either way; even if debated, she could respond and viewed it as an opportunity to explain her work.
