Thammasat University's Faculty of Law has launched the 'Sanya Dharmasakti Library: Future Law Library for the People' fundraising campaign to create a new-era legal learning space for lawyers and the public. The faculty held a press conference for the 'Fundraising Project to Develop the Sanya Dharmasakti Library into a Future Law Library for the People' on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the Law School and the 120th anniversary of Professor Sanya Dharmasakti's birth. The project aims to preserve Professor Sanya's legacy while transforming the library into a modern, open, and accessible legal learning hub for legal professionals and the general public.
Associate Professor Dr. Supriya Kaeolad, Dean of the Faculty of Law, and Class 40 alumni explained that the Sanya Dharmasakti Library has long been a learning space for law students. This development goes beyond physical renovation to create a 'new model learning space' supporting research, idea exchange, collaboration, and career preparation, linking physical space with digital legal databases and opening public access to legal knowledge.
Professor Dr. Supasawad Chachaval, Rector of Thammasat University, emphasized the library's importance as academic infrastructure supporting teaching, research, knowledge creation, and lifelong learning, as well as the university's adaptation to changing technology and learning formats.
The event featured special lectures: 'Sanya Dharmasakti Library and the Mission to Build a Society of Wisdom and Justice in Thai Society' by former Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai, Class 01 alumnus, and 'Sanya Dharmasakti Library: Law Library for the People' by Professor Dr. Surapol Nitikraipot, Chairman of Thammasat University Council, Class 21 alumnus. A panel discussion titled 'Sanya Dharmasakti Library: Dream Meeting Point, Learning Space to Success Path' included faculty members and alumni.
The fundraising campaign targets four development areas: space, technology, information systems, and learning resources, to elevate the library into a legal learning center connecting knowledge, technology, and people as a 'Future Law Library for the People' — serving as a space for learning, research, and public access to legal knowledge.
Additionally, the Faculty of Law partnered with PDM BRAND, a leading Thai lifestyle and design brand, to create a special commemorative collection 'LAW TU × PDM: Spaces for the Future' under the concept 'Co-creating Future Learning Spaces,' allowing alumni, students, and the public to support the library renovation through merchandise blending contemporary design with Thammasat's identity. The collection includes two lines: 'The Dome Collection' inspired by Thammasat's iconic dome building, and 'The Library Collection.'
