A subcommittee has approved former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's sentence suspension, but with the condition that he wear an electronic monitoring bracelet throughout a four-month period until his sentence ends on September 9, 2026. The Thai Bar Association President, Norinpong Jinabutti, has questioned whether the EM bracelet mandate contradicts the intent of the 2019 Prisoner Benefits Regulation. According to high-level Justice Ministry sources, officials from the Bangkok Probation Office 7 will visit Klongprem Central Prison to install the EM bracelet and brief Thaksin on its operation. Thaksin must report to Bangkok Probation Office 1 within three days (May 11-13, 2026) to acknowledge his probation conditions and reporting requirements. Given his four-month probation period, Thaksin will need to report monthly, totaling four visits. The Justice Ministry confirmed that the EM bracelet will remain in place until his sentence completely expires on September 9, 2026, consistent with the subcommittee's decision. Should Thaksin require medical treatment that conflicts with the EM bracelet, such as an MRI scan, he can request temporary removal through proper procedures.
