TV News Director Meets DSI Over Foundation Donation Probe
Thai television news director Phuttha Phivorn met with the Department of Special Investigation as a witness over his 400,000‑baht donations to the Kan Chomphang Foundation in 2025. The foundation, led by activist Kan Chomphang, is under scrutiny for possible misuse of funds, with other donors including prominent news anchor Kornchai Kamneetploy also being summoned. Investigators are reviewing donation records and foundation expenditures before deciding whether to question the foundation’s leader.
TV news director Phuttha Phivorn met with the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) as a witness over his donations to the Kan Chomphang Foundation. He said he expects the contributions were made during the Thai‑Cambodia border incident or during flood relief efforts, recalling two donations: 300,000 baht and 100,000 baht, totaling 400,000 baht, and that he never transferred money to Kan Chomphang’s personal account.
The DSI’s Justice Affairs Investigation Unit is examining a petition filed by lawyer Sithara Beeabang (known as "Tum") requesting scrutiny of the foundation’s registration, internal spending, procurement using foundation funds, and donation collection. Investigators have sent letters to relevant agencies seeking documents to verify the claims before summoning witnesses, which include donors, close associates of Kan Chomphang, and foundation staff. They have not yet summoned Kan Chomphang himself, pending collection of the complainant’s information.
Other notable donors have also been drawn into the investigation. Prominent news anchor Kornchai Kamneetploy, who donated a total of 1.5 million baht to the foundation, was previously scheduled to meet the DSI on October 1, 2026 but postponed due to work commitments. His contributions included a 1‑million‑baht transfer in September 2024 to assist northern flood victims (deposited into Kan Chomphang’s personal account) and a 500,000‑baht donation in March 2025 to the foundation shortly after it was established. On October 23, 2025, Kornchai aired a segment on the midday news urging Kan Chomphang to clarify how the foundation’s funds have been spent and to disclose the current balance for transparency.
The investigation continues as authorities review financial records and foundation activities before deciding on further steps.
