The Ultra Trail Laplae Facebook page has posted a message of condolence regarding the death of Chaiyaporn Bunnop, a 64-year-old runner who collapsed during the 20-kilometer stage of the Ultra Trail Laplae event.
According to the timeline provided: The race started at 05:30. At 05:53, medical staff arrived at the scene. The incident occurred when runners along the course alerted officials that someone had collapsed. Upon notification, the ambulance immediately responded and began continuous CPR. An automated external defibrillator (AED) was used twice. The runner was brought to the start point medical station where CPR continued for an additional 10 minutes before being transferred to Laplae Hospital with a doctor and nurse. Today the organizers conducted a simulation test of the actual route conditions, walking from the start point to the incident location, covering approximately 600 meters with an 80-meter elevation gain, which took approximately 12 minutes and 35 seconds.
The organizers apologized for the delayed explanation, stating they needed to compile all information accurately and review statements from the medical staff and volunteers who provided assistance, as well as conduct the simulation themselves.
