Anutin Launches Government Communications Overhaul, New Spokesman

At 10:35 a.m. on 7 September 2025 at Parliament, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Interior Minister discussed the reasons behind the government's major communications overhaul. Regarding the weekly Saturday broadcast programme 'Chat with Anutin's Cabinet', Anutin said that after six months in office, the Government Public Relations Department, headed by Suphamaas Isaraphakdi, the minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, had proposed the restructuring. Anutin noted that previous governments had similar programmes to communicate with the public, such as 'PM Meets the People', and the current administration wants ministers to work and communicate with citizens each week through regular appearances on the show to explain their work and keep the public informed. The schedule for the Prime Minister's own appearances has not yet been set.

When asked about replacing Government Spokesperson Ratchada Thanadirek with Dr Ekkaphop Piamviseht, expected to be presented to the Cabinet meeting on 8 September, Anutin said the new spokesman would focus on communicating with the public about what the government has accomplished. When asked whether the new spokesperson should focus on political rebuttals, the Prime Minister said: 'Let's not use the word rebuttal. Let's say that whatever the matter, we will clarify all doubts and concerns so that all sides are informed.'

Asked whether a Cabinet reshuffle would follow the communications team overhaul, Anutin laughed. When asked again whether a reshuffle would happen after six months in office, he laughed again before saying 'Okay' and left to attend a parliamentary session. Reporters asked whether his laughter meant it was not yet time for a Cabinet reshuffle, but Anutin did not answer.
