Major Snack Factory Fire in Samut Sakhon Causes Tens of Millions in Damage
A major snack factory in Samut Sakhon caught fire early September 7, destroying a production building with damage estimated at tens of millions of baht before firefighters contained it after three hours.
At approximately 7:30 a.m. on September 7, a fire broke out at a major snack-manufacturing company located in Moo 7, Om Noi Subdistrict, Krathum Baen District, Samut Sakhon Province. The facility is divided into several sections including office buildings, production areas, equipment storage, and finished-product warehouses. The fire occurred in a two-storey production building covering about half an acre, filled with machinery, raw materials, and packaging supplies. Flames tore through the structure so intensely that they broke through the roof.
Firefighters from Om Noi Municipality's Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center, along with fire trucks and support vehicles from Samut Sakhon and neighbouring areas—more than 50 units total—mobilized rapidly to spray water from all directions and prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings. The operation was commanded by Pirunroj Nakdontri, district chief of Krathum Baen; Boonchu Nilthanom, mayor of Om Noi Municipality; and other officials. Fortunately, authorities managed to contain the fire after more than three hours, preventing it from intensifying.
Investigation revealed the fire started around 6:30 a.m., when no regular staff were present. Only about three employees had arrived to power up the production line in preparation for the day's work. Shortly after the machinery was switched on, fire erupted rapidly and became uncontrollable. Damage is estimated at tens of millions of baht. Police will coordinate with forensic specialists to investigate the fire's cause once the flames are fully extinguished.
