Upstream Floodwaters Swamp Riverside Communities in Nakhon Sawan
Upstream floodwaters have driven the Chao Phraya River beyond its banks, flooding low‑lying communities in Nakhon Sawan’s municipal area. Elderly residents have been evacuated to temporary shelters on higher ground as water reaches depths over 50 centimetres in places. The city has set up emergency shelters and deployed water pumps to prepare for any further increase in inflow.
Reports from Nakhon Sawan indicate that the Chao Phraya River’s water level continues to rise, with the C2 monitoring point recording a flow of 2,610 cubic metres per second and an increase of about 59 centimetres. Low‑lying districts such as Bang Prong, Wat Tabaek, Pak Nam Pho railway station and the riverbank fringes have been flooded, prompting the evacuation of seniors and the relocation of household goods to temporary shelters on higher ground. In some locations water exceeds 50 centimetres deep, requiring residents to wade or use boats to get around. The municipal authority has already arranged emergency accommodation and is readying water pumps throughout the inner city and business districts in case the upstream surge grows stronger.
