Thailand’s Social Security Board election will be held on October 11 after a flood‑related postponement. Employers are advised to verify their eligibility and polling station details, especially as some locations have changed in Bangkok and Nonthaburi. Candidate Varunya Wongchan urged voters to prepare required documents and participate to improve the system’s transparency and efficiency.

The election for the Social Security Board’s employer and insured member representatives for 2026 will take place on Sunday, October 11, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., after being moved from September 27 because of flood conditions. Voters should double‑check their names and polling stations, particularly if they had previously recorded a unit, as some locations have been changed in Pathum Wan, Bang Sue, and Bang Rak Phatthana in Nonthaburi. The Social Security Office provides a lookup tool at https://sbe2.sso.go.th/lookup/ and will assign employers who never chose a voting site to the unit based on their business address. The window for submitting additional eligibility requests or withdrawals closed on September 30; anyone who still cannot find their name or unit should contact the office or call the hotline 1506 and press 9 for case‑by‑case assistance. Candidate Varunya Wongchan, known as “Som” and numbered 5 on the employer slate, said employers must prepare documents such as authority letters and a recent corporate registration certificate not older than six months. If elected, she pledged to make the social security system convenient, fast, honest, transparent and fair, starting with easier contribution tracking and clear timelines for processing claims. She also proposed measures to help firms with liquidity problems retain staff without harming workers’ rights and to have the fund disclose returns, risks and costs in plain language. Varunya reminded employers that “every month‑end is an expense, not income,” and urged all eligible voters to check their polling place, prepare their paperwork and cast their ballot on October 11.

Government Flood Response Criticized as Sweet Words Fail to Help

Bangkok and nearby provinces are grappling with persistent floodwaters that disrupt daily life, raise health concerns, and threaten further areas as upstream water is released. Government leaders, led by Prime Minister Anutin, have downplayed the crisis by comparing it to the 2011 floods while offering only brief visits, relief packets, and cash handouts without a coherent action plan. Residents and critics argue that the response relies on sweet words rather than effective preparation and demand a systematic approach to manage the disaster.
