Van Rear-Ends Truck in Nakhon Ratchasima, Four Injured

Nakhon Ratchasima — A passenger van crashed violently into the back of a six-wheel truck on Mittraphap Road, leaving four people injured and one seriously hurt after becoming trapped in the front console. Rescue teams deployed cutting tools to extricate the victim before transporting everyone to Sikhiu Hospital. Thankfully, no lives were lost.

On October 29, the Hook 31 Rescue Unit in Sikhiu was alerted by Sikhiu Police Station to an accident at kilometre 90–91 near Ban Sap Sombun, Lat Bua Khao subdistrict, Sikhiu district. Responders found a six-wheel enclosed truck with Ayutthaya licence plates parked in the far left lane, its rear heavily damaged from the impact.

About 200 metres away, they discovered a Nakhon Ratchasima-registered van with its front completely crushed. Injured passengers were trapped inside, including one person on the front passenger side who was seriously injured and pinned against the dashboard console. Rescuers used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the victim, who had fractures in both legs, before providing first aid and rushing all casualties to hospital.

The van driver, 23-year-old Wichit Panich, sustained minor injuries. He told police he was driving from Saraburi back to his home in Nakhon Ratchasima in his girlfriend's van when he swerved to avoid the truck but could not prevent the collision.

The truck driver, 63-year-old Sai Suk, said he was travelling from Bangkok to Takhu subdistrict, Pak Thong Chai district, at a steady 60 km/h in the left lane. He noticed the van following in the middle lane via his side mirror before it suddenly slammed into his rear, pushing his truck more than 200 metres and nearly causing it to overturn.

Investigators are gathering evidence, reviewing CCTV footage, and interviewing witnesses to determine the exact cause. It remains unclear whether the van driver fell asleep or was avoiding another vehicle. Legal proceedings will follow once the investigation is complete.
