Volunteer Boat Crew Completes Flood Relief Mission in Samut Sakhon
Volunteer speedboat crews from Banphaeo in Samut Sakhon completed a seven‑night, eight‑day flood‑relief operation in Mahachai Canal, pushing water to ease inundation of homes and farmland. Although water levels are now receding, the teams remain on standby to redeploy immediately should another surge occur. Their effort highlights local solidarity and readiness to face future flooding challenges.
On October 5, 2026, volunteer speedboat crews from Banphaeo district in Samut Sakhon province joined forces to combat rising floodwaters in Mahachai Canal, working continuously for seven nights and eight days. This morning they withdrew from their main stations at the Bang Yang sluice gate, in front of Wat Lak Si Rassadorn Sports Club, and before Wat Thamma Charoen Ariyam after completing the final phase of water‑pushing operations. Throughout the effort, more than 50 boats operated their engines at full capacity to drive water away from residential areas and farmland that had been inundated by overflow. Volunteers labored day and night against strong currents, especially at the strategically important Bang Yang sluice gate that channels water into the Tha Chin River. Their collective action helped lower water levels and reduce potential damage to the community. Despite fatigue, none expressed discouragement, emphasizing that their work stemmed from a duty to assist fellow locals. A representative said, “We do not see this as a burden but as the responsibility of those who share the same canal; if the water returns, we will regroup and help immediately.” Support from local authorities, residents, and benefactors—providing fuel, food, drinks, and other necessities—was vital to sustaining the operation. Recent data from the Mae Klong Dam front‑office water management center shows a steady decline in discharge, causing water levels in the dam’s tailwater, Mahachai Canal, and surrounding areas to stabilize and fall. Authorities continue to monitor conditions closely due to residual water volumes and possible weather changes. Although the volunteer crew’s “rest‑but‑not‑stand‑down” mission has paused temporarily, their spirit of cooperation and sacrifice remains a source of hope, affirming that the people of Banphaeo will stand together against any future flood threat.
