Young actor JorJay of Boys Vibe The Project, whose full name is Phumi Hirun and who appeared in Love Sick The Series 2024, has passed away. His last post on social media (jorjaypmr on Instagram and TikTok) was uploaded five days ago while he was visiting Dinosaur Land at Siam Amazing Park, captioned "Thrilled and excited at Dinosaur Land #jorjaypmr #siamamazingpark." Members of the entertainment industry, including actor Nik Kunathip and his former acting coach Khru Pi Naan, have shared tributes. Khru Pi Naan posted: "Thank you for the wonderful experiences, Jay. Thank you for once being my student. Though time has passed and it was only a short period, the time I spent as both your teacher and older sister, guiding you and taking you out for meals, was a beautiful memory for us. I believed from the start that you would be a great actor with a bright future ahead. You had so much potential, and I always told you that you could do it. I hope you find happiness and go where you wish to go. May you no longer suffer." She also wrote: "Sleep well, dear. Thank you for the laughter, good mood, and fun times in class. Thank you for the smiles you gave us and all your classmates. Rest in peace." When asked what happened, Khru Pi Naan replied that JorJay's mother had posted on her private Facebook that he had passed away the previous night, with funeral arrangements to be announced later. JorJay's mother posted a heartbreaking image of her son at his funeral on August 2, writing: "Sleep well, my son. You are the light of my heart."

Friends and family mourned singer and music video star An Waiyathya after he died when his motorcycle plunged into an open drainage construction pit. Another person was injured at the same location, and complaints have been filed against the contractor.

Waiyathya, 29, a southern Thailand folk singer, fell into the pit on a road in Moo 8, Tha Chang Subdistrict, Bang Klam District, Songkhla Province. On August 2, relatives and friends gathered at the accident site with white roses, food, and drinks to pay respects amid solemn atmosphere.

His sister, Supharat, spoke through tears, describing him as a caring middle brother who looked after her well and provided whatever she needed. He even gave up his bedroom for her. She said he normally helped their father with construction work and earned extra income singing and doing delivery rides. Supharat appealed to the contractor, asking why metal sheets were not placed over the pit after an earlier accident occurred there. She expressed that had repairs been made, her brother would still be alive, and questioned whether the contractor could undo the tragedy.

During the vigil, 26-year-old Sulkifhulee also arrived and showed fresh wounds on his right elbow, hip, and knee. He recounted that on July 28 around 7 p.m., while riding his motorcycle with one hand holding his son and momentarily glancing left, he collided with a metal sign panel and direction arrow with dim lighting before falling and nearly dropping into the pit. There was no metal sheet covering it at the time. After regaining consciousness, he recovered his motorcycle and rode home with his son, discovering injuries to his right elbow, hip, and knee. He later filed a report at Bang Klam Police Station.

Sulkifhulee observed that after his accident, the contractor left the area in its original condition with only a barrier and small warning sign, without placing metal sheets to cover the pit opening. He warned that unfamiliar road users or nighttime riders risked the same fate and called for government agencies overseeing construction contracts to seriously investigate the contractor's responsibility. He urged authorities to prevent further loss of life and property from such negligence.

The government is rushing to assist nearly 980,000 new state welfare card holders in completing identity verification, while encouraging 5.2 million more to submit benefit review requests before the August 31 deadline. More than 4 million have already filed for benefit review.

Government spokesman Ratchada Thanadirek said the government prioritizes ensuring poor and disadvantaged citizens receive fair and universal welfare benefits. The government has coordinated all relevant agencies and accelerated support for identity verification, benefit review requests, and public outreach to help citizens meet the deadline.

Of the 9.5 million people who passed qualification screening, 6.3 million existing cardholders require no additional verification, while 3.1 million new cardholders must complete the e-KYC identity verification process.

As of August 2, 2026, more than 2.1 million new cardholders (69%) have completed verification, leaving approximately 980,000 (31%) still pending. The government is actively following up, promoting awareness, and facilitating the process to prevent people from losing their benefits. Those who failed initial qualification can appeal, with over 4.1 million appeals already filed (44%), while 5.2 million more remain eligible to appeal by August 31.

The government has set up multiple service channels including the "Thang Rat" and "Pao Tang" apps, project websites, five state banks, and 878 One Stop Service (OSS) centers across all districts to assist citizens, particularly the elderly, disabled, and vulnerable populations unable to access online services.

OSS centers will receive appeal requests and forward them to rights verification agencies in local districts and provinces, including district tax offices, district land offices, provincial transport offices, and provincial commerce offices. Village headmen and local government organizations are also mobilizing to conduct outreach in every community.

"The government is determined not to let citizens lose welfare benefits due to inconvenience or lack of information," Ratchada said. "We have prepared sufficient staff, systems, and service channels. We urge the 980,000 new cardholders who haven't verified their identity and the 5.2 million who haven't appealed to complete their applications by the deadline so everyone receives their full welfare entitlements."

Pricha Wachrasindhu, a Pheu Thai party list MP and deputy party leader, posted on Facebook on August 3 responding to defamation charges filed by Deputy Prime Minister Thongsuk Thongsakdi's lawyer on August 2 in Bueng Kan province. Pricha said he believes the lawsuit stems from testimony by Sananchai Chuea-Udomtanikij, a former Senate candidate from Nong Bua Lamphu, who revealed on the opposition floor that he was part of a scheme to hire candidates for Senate election led by Sorchai Vichisuvannaprom and reported to Thongsuk when he was deputy interior minister. Pricha stressed the lawsuit will not stop him from investigating the Senate fraud case and announced new evidence from national Senate ballot cards showing links between Sorchai (number 111) and Pornperm Thongsakdi (number 65), both elected from Group 13.

Pricha presented detailed ballot analysis showing the two candidates' numbers appeared together in four identical voting instructions, each listing only five Group 13 candidates allowed per ballot. He found that 44 candidates (67% of Sorchai's votes and 73% of Pornperm's votes) voted for both men together, far exceeding chance correlation. Pricha also noted that ballot card numbers matched the voting instruction patterns clearly, such as Instruction A (65-111-36-123-1) appearing on multiple actual ballots. He questioned whether the two senators were independently elected or had coordinated in the alleged fraud scheme before the election and urged the Election Commission to submit the evidence to court for investigation.

Multiple explosions rocked a battery repair warehouse at 4 a.m. on August 3, 2569, in Bang Sao Thong District, Samut Prakan Province, sending thick black smoke across the residential area and forcing several residents to evacuate. Police from Bang Sao Thong Station coordinated with firefighters from Bang Sao Thong Municipality, local tambon administration offices, and rescue teams to respond to the blaze at a single-story warehouse adjoining multiple residences.

The fire spread rapidly and intensely from the warehouse. Firefighters deployed water lines from all sides to contain the blaze and prevent it from reaching neighboring homes, working amid downed power lines and active electrical currents. Residents from rental units and nearby houses fled outdoors due to heavy smoke and fear of the fire spreading to their properties. Firefighters brought the fire under control within approximately one hour.

Initial inspection revealed that the warehouse and neighboring houses were completely gutted, while houses behind the warehouse suffered partial damage. Multiple residents reported hearing several loud explosions before flames erupted rapidly, forcing them to flee their homes.

Kittipatht (surname withheld), the owner of a house adjoining the warehouse whose home was completely destroyed, said he was resting inside when he heard multiple explosions. Upon waking, his house was already filled with smoke, so he and his girlfriend escaped in time before the fire spread rapidly.

The warehouse operated as a battery repair and storage shop with several parked vehicles. The warehouse owner acknowledged that multiple battery chargers were plugged in, and the fire started in a battery charging area, likely caused by an electrical short circuit.

Damage assessment identified the warehouse as completely destroyed, along with adjoining residential houses. Five vehicles were also completely burned. Police temporarily cordoned off the area to coordinate with investigators and gather evidence regarding the fire's cause.

A motorcyclist died in a devastating collision with a pickup truck driving in reverse on Sri Warin Noi Road in Bang Phleng, Samut Prakan province, on the evening of August 2. Emergency responders arrived at 11:38 p.m. to find Natthawut, a 30-year-old Honda Wave motorcycle taxi driver from Bangkok, severely injured and bleeding heavily. Despite more than 20 minutes of CPR efforts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

CCTV footage and witness accounts confirmed that a black Nissan pickup truck with Udon Thani plates was driving in reverse and made a U-turn across lanes into oncoming traffic. The motorcyclist, unable to stop and skidding on the wet road, collided violently with the front of the truck. Witnesses reported that the motorcyclist was heading straight at speed and had no time to brake.

The victim's family arrived at the scene in distress, revealing that he worked as a ride-hailing driver and was heading out to pick up a passenger through an application when the accident occurred. The pickup truck driver, Worapoj, 48, admitted to driving in reverse intentionally to buy noodles from a nearby shop that turned out to be closed. He acknowledged consuming one beer before driving and failing to watch for oncoming traffic when making the U-turn.

Police took the truck driver into custody on charges of driving recklessly causing another person's death. He will undergo blood alcohol testing to determine if he exceeded legal limits, with additional charges to follow if warranted. The victim's body was transferred to Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital for autopsy.
