15-Year-Old Shot Dead in Gang Pursuit in Chaiyaphum
A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed by a 17-year-old rival gang member in Chaiyaphum province after being chased on a motorcycle; police arrested the suspect who claims to have thrown the gun into water.
Chaiyaphum — A shocking incident unfolded late at night when a 15-year-old boy was chased by a group of teenagers and shot three times near the entrance to Nong Bo village on Chaiyaphum-Tat Ton Road, before dying at hospital. Investigating officers quickly apprehended a 17-year-old suspect along with two others for questioning. The suspect initially claimed he had thrown the gun into water.
At 1:45 a.m. on September 3, 2026, Sub-Lieutenant Thitiphat Khamrangsee, the investigating officer at Muang Chaiyaphum Police Station, received a report from Radio Center 191 of a shooting with an injured person. The victim was transported to Chaiyaphum Hospital and died shortly after. The incident occurred near the entrance to Nong Bo village on Chaiyaphum-Tat Ton Road in Muang District, Chaiyaphum Province.
Officers examined the victim at hospital and identified him as Chai, 15 years old, from Muang Chaiyaphum District, who had been shot once in the right upper chest area.
According to questioning of a 12-year-old friend of the victim, the two were riding motorcycles together headed to the walking street. Near a convenience store on Chai Prasit Road, they encountered another group of teenagers on motorcycles passing by. When the victim and his friend turned their bikes around, the group began chasing them. Upon reaching the entrance to Nong Bo village, approximately three gunshots rang out, causing the victim to fall from his bike. The friend and another person rushed to help and took him to hospital, while the suspects fled.
Following the report, Muang Chaiyaphum Police officers tracked down and detained the 17-year-old suspect, identified as Nai, along with two associates for questioning. Nai claimed he had disposed of the gun in water and refused to provide further information when questioned by reporters.
Officers are collecting evidence and investigating the facts. The suspect is being handed to the Muang Chaiyaphum Police investigation unit to face charges of intentional murder and carrying a firearm in a town, village, or public place without reasonable cause, with legal proceedings to follow.
