73 Vehicle Damage Reports Filed After Tire Debris Falls on Rama 9 Road
Seventy-three vehicle owners have filed damage reports after tire debris fell on their cars during road repairs on Bangkok's elevated Rama 9 Road, with police investigating the contractor for negligence.
On September 19, victims began filing reports at Hua Mark Police Station after rubber debris fell onto their vehicles on the outbound side of Rama 9 Road, between the Rama 9 and Ram Khamhaeng intersections, during road surface repairs on the elevated highway. The 73rd victim to file a complaint was Chantima, 29, owner of a gray Honda City with license plate 7 KLT 7658 (Bangkok). She told investigating officer Prama Lodsuko that her vehicle was hit by falling tire debris while she was driving home from work. Although she initially thought her car had escaped damage, she discovered scratches and dents along the right side from the front bumper to the rear bumper. She demanded that the contractor take responsibility and schedule work during less congested hours. Police Major Thuwan Nginyoung, the investigating officer at Hua Mark Police Station, revealed that preliminary contact had been made with the contracting company regarding negligence charges causing damage to third-party property. Victims continue to report incidents with no set deadline, though police urge them to come forward quickly. By 1 p.m., the 73rd victim had reported damage, and authorities believe more may follow. The contractor has acknowledged the issue and agreed to compensate all damages. Inspection found numerous vehicles damaged, including Mercedes, BMW, and electric vehicles, with debris striking roofs, front and rear fenders, and scattering across vehicle bodies.
