Buriram Road Potholes Damage Over 30 Vehicles

A Facebook post warning of dangerous potholes on the Lahan Sai-Chaloem Phrakiat Road in Lahan Sai district, Buriram province, has highlighted a serious road safety crisis. The poster reported that nearly 10 vehicles had already suffered tire blowouts, with some vehicles losing two tires. A news team investigation found approximately 1 kilometer of severely damaged asphalt riddled with potholes—some large, deep, and filled with standing water that makes them invisible to drivers. When vehicles hit these holes at speed, they suffer tire blowouts and rim damage; some drivers have spare tires to change themselves, while others must call mechanics, incurring time and expense. Local resident Sanop, 56, explained that area residents know to drive slowly through the damaged section, but outsiders and night drivers unaware of the large potholes often hit them and suffer damage—over 30 vehicles have been affected so far. Although officials have attempted repairs, the road deteriorates again quickly. Resident Bunnyapa, 44, who lives near the site, reports hearing the sound of vehicles hitting potholes almost every night and has occasionally found vehicle parts and license plates scattered on the road. Local tire shop owner Supol notes that the 1-kilometer stretch worsens during heavy rain, with accidents occurring both day and night, and has received many calls for tire repairs and replacements.
