On September 2, Nantawat, 28, from Mae Sa-pay Nuea village in Khun Yuam district, Mae Hong Son province, disclosed the case of his wife Pakphan, 28, who died along with their unborn child while being treated at a hospital.
Nantawat explained that his wife worked as a childcare provider at a church. On August 31, she began experiencing labor pains and was scheduled for delivery on September 1. He rushed her to the hospital, but nursing staff reported that her cervix had opened only 2 centimeters and told him to take her home to rest. At midnight, his wife began vomiting, turned pale, and her blood pressure spiked to 228, prompting him to rush her back to the hospital—a journey requiring two hours.
Upon arrival, staff admitted her to the delivery room for observation. Around 10 a.m. on September 1, her condition deteriorated. The hospital transferred her to Mae Hong Son city hospital, but her condition worsened during transport. Staff brought her back to the original hospital for emergency resuscitation, but she died along with the unborn child. The hospital performed an emergency cesarean section, delivering a female infant weighing just over 3 kilograms.
Nantawat said he has brought his wife and child's body home for religious rites but remains troubled by their deaths. He is seeking justice and has filed a complaint with Khun Yuam Police Station. He plans to send his wife's body to the forensic pathology department at Chiang Mai University's Maharaj Nakhon Hospital to determine the cause of death.
