Heavy Rain Alert Issued for 37 Thai Provinces
Thirty-seven Thai provinces face heavy rain warnings with 60% coverage and risks of flash flooding and landslides, as tropical storm Soudelexpects to weaken near southern China and won't directly impact Thailand.
The Thai Meteorological Department forecasts continued heavy rain in parts of the northern, northeastern, eastern, and southern regions over the next 24 hours due to a monsoon trough affecting upper northern Thailand and northern Laos, combined with the approach of Tropical Storm Soudeul in the northern South China Sea and moderate southwest monsoon winds over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. The public is urged to exercise caution against heavy and accumulated rainfall that may cause flash flooding and flash floods, particularly in hillside areas near water channels and low-lying zones. Travel through repeatedly flood-prone routes, especially low-lying areas prone to short-term inundation, should be avoided. Waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand are moderate, with the upper Andaman Sea experiencing waves around 2 meters high, rising above 2 meters in thunderstorm areas. Fishermen in these waters are advised to navigate with caution and avoid thunderstorm zones. Tropical Storm Soudeul is expected to move ashore in southern China tonight and weaken into a depression, with no threat to Thailand. Regional forecasts show 60 percent thunderstorm coverage in the north, northeast, and southwestern south with heavy rain in specific provinces; 40 percent coverage in the central and southeastern coastal regions; temperatures ranging from 22-27°C (low) to 31-36°C (high); and southwest winds of 10-35 kph depending on region.
