Samut Sakhon Governor Orders Dredging to Ease Rama 2 Flood
Samut Sakhon’s governor has ordered the dredging of Khetum Canal and removal of blocking vegetation and garbage to improve drainage and reduce flooding on Rama 2 Road. The action follows inspections that found significant obstructions and ineffective drainage exacerbated by high sea levels and recent rain. Officials aim to clear the canal and upgrade road drainage, though high tide may still limit outflow.
Samut Sakhon Governor Amnat Charoensri ordered urgent dredging of Khetum Canal and removal of vegetation and garbage blocking water flow to alleviate flooding on Rama 2 Road after drainage from the area proved inefficient. On October 6, 2026, the governor, together with Deputy Governor Damrongsak Yotthong and relevant agencies, inspected flood conditions on both sides of Rama 2 Road near Wat Ketumdee Siworaram Temple in Bang Hoad subdistrict, Mueang Samut Sakhon District. They found significant aquatic vegetation and obstructions hindering drainage into Khetum Canal, while floodwater on the inbound lane affected traffic. Contributing factors include inefficient drainage, high sea levels limiting outflow, and ongoing rain. The governor directed the use of backhoes to dredge the canal from the bridge beside the temple to its rear, removing silt, sediment, weeds, and debris to increase flow capacity, and instructed the Samut Sakhon Highway Office to improve road drainage into the canal as quickly as possible, although high tide may still restrict outflow.
