Irrigation Department Meets Flood-Hit Villagers, Accepts Three Demands
Officials from the Irrigation Department met with flood‑affected villagers in Chachoengsao Province after residents protested over high water levels. The department agreed to consider three community demands, including stopping nearby embankment work and adjusting water‑gate equipment. Authorities will evaluate the proposals based on technical data and potential impacts before deciding on further action.
The Irrigation Department held talks with flood-affected villagers in Village 2, Khlong Khuean Subdistrict, Khlong Khuean District, Chachoengsao Province, and agreed to consider three demands to address the problem. Sarawut Nueanjong, aide to the Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister, said that following protests and road blockades by residents, Minister Suriya Jungrungruengkit had ordered the department’s Royal Chao Chaiyanuchit Irrigation Project to quickly engage with the public and resolve the issue. Nathawat Sinthuwong, director of the project, met with locals and relevant agencies to hear concerns, and the villagers presented three proposals: halt construction of earthen bunds alongside the canal, remove stop logs or water‑gate equipment at the drainage outlet to allow water to overflow and flow toward the Tha Kai drainage gate, and assign staff to continuously inform the public about water management, provide restroom facilities, and operate a boat shuttle between Wat Bang Chejet and the Khlong Khuean riverbank, which the district office will implement. Sarawut added that the project office and related agencies will review the proposals based on facts, water levels, site conditions, irrigation principles, and potential impacts on nearby communities to ensure appropriate and comprehensive water management.
