Authorities Raid Illegal Nursing Home With Barbed Wire Fences
Thai health officials raided an illegally operated nursing home in Nonthaburi’s Soi Rewadi after discovering it housed elderly and psychiatric patients behind barbed‑wire fences. The facility lacked doctors and specialist staff, and its license did not match its actual use, with over eighty‑one mental‑health patients recorded. Authorities are working with mental‑health and social‑welfare agencies to assess and relocate the residents.
Inspectors found that the first facility had been licensed for only one building with nine beds, yet they were caring for eleven elderly residents. An adjacent building was being used illegally for psychiatric patients, with fifty‑eight beds. The second facility clearly violated the Health Facility Act, prompting authorities to coordinate with relatives, the Department of Mental Health, the Office of Social Development and Human Security, and Sri Thanya Hospital to evaluate the patients and arrange their discharge within the day.
