Bangkok Governor: Every Help Request Matters in Flood Crisis
Bangkok's governor says all flood relief requests are being tracked and addressed as the city assists roughly 100,000 residents affected by flooding, with schools serving as distribution hubs for emergency supplies and meals.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt emphasized that all requests for assistance are being taken seriously and no case goes unaddressed, even as hundreds of thousands of residents remain affected by flooding. On September 28, Chadchart and Deputy Governor Sanan Wang Sang Bun visited Wichutis School in Din Daeng district to inspect and encourage staff, teachers, education officials, military personnel, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration workers, students, and volunteer units packing relief bags and supplies for distribution to flood victims across the city.
Chadchart stated that approximately 100,000 residents have been affected, with some districts handling relief independently and others receiving central government support. Currently, about 60,000 people are being assisted with both emergency supplies and daily cooked meals. The school serves as a collection and distribution hub bringing together supplies from multiple Bangkok schools, which streamlines delivery since preparation in affected areas can face logistical challenges. Pre-cooked boxed rice is the most efficient relief item as it can be distributed immediately upon arrival.
The governor clarified that volunteer recruitment has not yet formally opened, but all who wish to help are welcome, as community solidarity is what helps the city overcome the crisis. Regarding complaints that the emergency hotline 1556 and other assistance channels are difficult to reach, Chadchart explained the high volume of calls but noted that multiple phone lines are connected. He urged those unable to get through to report via the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's Facebook page or other social media channels, as all requests are logged in the digital system and assigned to staff for follow-up. He emphasized that every case matters and every message has meaning, citing efforts to help over 200 bedbound patients, of whom 182 have already received assistance.
