Bangkok Governor Prepares for Heavy Rain, Lifts Two Disaster Zones
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt announced flood preparations ahead of forecast heavy rain and strong winds from November 5-9. The city has deployed pumps and drainage equipment while monitoring construction zones where flooding typically recedes within an hour. The BMA also plans to lift disaster zone declarations for Lat Krabang and Nong Chok districts within two days as conditions improve.
On November 4, 2026, at the Erawan Building, Bangkok City Hall 2, Din Daeng, Governor Chadchart Sittipunt disclosed the city's rain monitoring efforts and water management measures for Bangkok. According to the Meteorological Department's announcement for November 5-9, Thailand will experience variable weather with heavy rain, strong gusts, and hail, including in the Bangkok area. Consequently, the BMA has prepared its readiness and is continuously monitoring the situation, readying water pumps to handle heavy downpours and instructing each district to maintain close vigilance, particularly regarding the risk of falling trees due to strong winds. On November 6, the annual Royal Barge Procession will take place, requiring orderly proceedings, so the governor emphasized landscape improvements, pier safety, and public care for spectators.
The governor noted that main flood-prone spots are largely areas with ongoing construction projects, such as electric train lines, where floodwater typically recedes quickly, within no more than an hour. However, some points may face issues, like retention ponds along Ramkhamhaeng 90 where contractors have not fully opened drainage channels. Nevertheless, based on the Meteorological Department's forecast, if there is no prolonged continuous heavy rain, major problems are not expected; rain is likely to fall in intervals, and drainage equipment is on standby. Additionally, the BMA is set to revoke disaster zone declarations for the two remaining districts — Lat Krabang and Nong Chok — within one to two days, as the situation in those areas has eased.
