Bangkok Governor Warns of Heavy Rain Oct 10-12
Bangkok Governor Chatchai Sittiphun warned residents to brace for heavy rain from October 10 to 12 and to keep drainage routes free of trash. He cited severe flooding in Floraville Village, where a lack of permanent barriers has left thousands of homes submerged, and said city, district, national, disaster and military units are working together to pump water out and assist affected communities.
At Floraville Village on Soi Suwinthawong, the governor noted that the subdivision, covering about 2,000 rai with 24 phases and roughly 7,300 inhabitants, has been inundated because heavy rains have dumped up to 350 millimetres of water in Bangkok, compounded by similar accumulations in Pathum Thani and Chachoengsao. The village lacks permanent flood barriers, so water flows in from surrounding fields and small canals, and drainage is hampered because pumped water tends to flow back into the area; water must be pushed southward through the Lam Plaew branch canal into the Prawet Burirom canal, then to Lad Krabang to reach the main drainage tunnel. Villagers and soldiers have built temporary earthen dikes and added fermented microorganisms to improve water quality. The governor said homes flooded for more than seven days are eligible for relief payments, and future measures could include constructing stronger perimeter barriers and installing community‑owned pumps. Although the rain has stopped and conditions are easing, he warned that additional heavy rain may fall on October 10‑12 and urged everyone to keep waterways clear and cooperate fully with the Bangkok administration, district offices, central government, disaster agency and armed forces.
